I think it's stupid for bikes 'IN THE COUNTRY' to be required to stay to the right with their back to traffic. Helmet mirrors are worthless, and in order for a cyclist to see a car coming, the mirror must be mounted on the left-hand handlebar. This is of course is the side where the kickstand is mounted, so when the bike falls it destroys a ridiculously expensive mirror EVERY @#$%%$# TIME! A few years back I was legally riding down the right side a busy highway shoulder when an elderly lady came at me on a bicycle riding on the wrong side yelled at me "You're riding on the wrong side of the road." I mumbled under my breath "you are absolutely right." Now I travel the left side of the road the same as pedestrians. I'm MUCH safer, and since I moved the mirror to the right side I haven't broken a mirror since. It's idiotic to have automobile laws apply to bicycles which are nothing but pedestrians on wheels.

ZOMG !!!
Bob please get your senile old butt back on the right side of the road... Its bad enough having to deal with bicyclists... We certainly don't need you guys traveling in both directions in our lane... Just what do you do when you see a car and a bicycle coming at you at the same time ??? Just keep going straight on and let those young whipper snappers sort it out I bet... There is a reason for riding on the right side of the road Bob... If your riding at 20 MPH and a truck hits you doing 35 MPH, that is a survivable 15 MPH collision... Where as if you are riding into head on traffic in the same speed situation you have 55 MPH head on collision, not survivable... Bob park that old Schwinn and get yourself a golf cart... I find it much less stressful coming up behind someone on a golf cart than I do
seeing some crazy @x/# barreling at me head on, on a bicycle...
Geec !!!
P.S. Good thing you took down your profile picture, I was going
to photo chop your head on some funny bicyclists pic...
P.S.S. I laughed at the 16 Signs That You Are Having A [Cat]astrophic Day email you sent me...
