Default For those who have yet to buy HD-DVD or Blu-Ray

For those of you(myself included) who have yet to buy a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player, how long do you feel you will wait before upgrading?

Personally, I have no real interest in upgrading anytime soon. My TV is not good enough to take advantage of anything better than regular DVD's, so I don't see any real point. Not to mention, there is also the high prices and the fact that there is no clear winner in the format war yet.

Maybe once prices drop more, I will start looking into upgrading.

For the time being, I am perfectly happy with my regular DVD's.

I don't see any reason why I should upgrade to an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray dvd player. My regular dvd player and regular DVD's are good enough for me. Maybe once all dvds start coming out exclusively in HD-DVD or Blu-Ray I will upgrade.

I'll probably wait until my current equipment breaks... then I'll see which one is ahead in the high definition race. I am sad to say I think blu-ray has taken the lead... we'll see if it goes the way of vhs vs beta or if it wins the battle this time.

It hasn't been 6 months sense I bought a 47" wide screen LCD flat panel wall mount TV... That was a big step up from my old 27" in the big box... And I'm pretty happy with it at the moment... I really don't even watch that much TV... I'm thinking that I'll wait till the new holographic TV projection system comes out before I upgrade again...

I'm with the rest of you. I'm not independently wealthy enough to replace my current system which works just fine. If I was I'd be behind Blu-ray and Sony all the way, but only because if they lost the war I could afford to replace the system and movie titles without issue. I'm a Sony lover hands down. By time they decide I might have enough tucked away for a nice TV/receiver/speaker system.

I wouldn't replace my dvd player with a HD-DVD or blu-ray one unless all dvds start coming out as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I don't see any need to replace something that works fine the way it is

Plus, aren't the high definition movies a good chunk more money than a standard dvd? That alone is incentive NOT to upgrade. I'm cheap, what can I say.

Wow, i'm pleased to see this started so much discussion!

Anyway, I honestly just think it's too soon for me to upgrade. The prices for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs and players, plus have a good enough television to use them on...just makes them seem very unappealing to me in general right now. Also, I was never much of "quality" nut anyway. As long as the picture and sound quality are clear enough, I don't have much to complain about.

I would only get a HD-DVD/Blu Ray player if it was <$200 and could play my existing collection of regular DVDs. I don't need another box+remote

I have no plans on upgrading at all. I will finally do so when the current system (ie DVD) is becoming obsolete and so I have no choice.

Otherwise I see it as too much of a risk when we can't even be sure that the formats will have long term success.
