Default A/V cable variety

I have seen all kinds of audio/video cables and the prices run the gamut. Is there a real difference in quality to account for all this variety in sizes and prices?

I think there is some difference in quality, but I'm not always sure its worth the uber expensive ones either unless you've got the 10k TV and system to warrant that kind of stuff. I normally settle for about mid price range.

The real expensive cables are not worth it by any means.Stay away from Monster. They are an evil company anyway. Cheap cables are exactly that. Cheap. Mid range priced cables will be perfect for anybody. Look for gold plated and possibly nitrogren injected cables.

Agreed, i go with midrange cables too. I use a brand called ixos, not sure if they're available that side of the pond. The benchmark seems to be spend about 10% of your budget on cables..

I've never seen ixos cables over here, so they must be pretty exclusive to the other side of the pond. I agree with the others as well, go midrange in price, with gold contacts as well. I'm not sold on the super expensive level myself either. But Monster Cable does make some good entry level stuff that I've been really happy with (sorry Obiwan), and they're not that outrageously priced IMO. Although I've seen good performance from other brands like Phlips and the such too.
