Default Fixing a DVD player

Is there any way to replace the "eye" on a DVD player yourself? Where would you even buy such a thing? I'm tired of tossing out DVD players but since they're fairly cheap now, I'm not sure it would be worth having one repaired.

You replace the laser reading 'eye' by taking your DVD player and tossing it into the trash and buying a new one.

Sadly, the repair cost would top well over a hundred dollars, and wouldn't even be guaranteed anyway.

Sadly it's true, we've become a throwaway society, new DVD players and the like are so cheap to buy, it's actually cheaper to buy a new one than to get your old one fixed. Now I just wish that was the issue with our cars...

I'm sure you could probably fix it if you have the know how to replace the piece and put the player back together. Getting a new laser could also be difficult, and replacing it could pose some occular dangers as well.
