Default Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Blah Blah Blah... BD

Sigh...

Okay, this was a blind buy for me because it seemed like a sure thing. I saw the original Raiders in the theater in the 4th grade. I've loved the series for years. When Indy rode off into the sunset, I was totally satisfied.

Indy on Blu-Ray looks absolutely beautiful. The presentation is superb and even almost all of the extras are in high definition. Great!

However, the movie is a complete pile of dog sh*t.

Really.

For a film that was touted to have loads of real in-camera effects and very little CG, I was floored with all the ridiculously obvious CG effects everywhere from the very first frame.

The story was completely inane, the acting was downright lousy and the characters were all just pointless caricatures. I expected Cate Blanchett to start talking about 'Moose & Squirrel' about halfway through the film.

While adventure cinema is often about the suspension of disbelief, I found it hard to believe that Indiana Jones could survive an nuclear explosion by hiding in a refrigerator, or that him and 4 others could survive going over 2 enormous rocky waterfalls in an amphibious vehicle.

This movie is just plain BAD.

So did the features and all that make it worth getting on blue ray? I didn't see the movie yet and kind of expected it to be as weak as you describe-its just been going a bit too long.

I won't even watch the features, I'm so mad at this film. It looks great on BD, but I see no need in keeping a movie that I find wretched.

OK, I really liked the movie but it had some MASSIVE flaws. The story was great but some of the execution was bad. Karen Allen was not Marion at all, and some of the dialogue delivery was bad. But it did have a closer feel to Raiders than the last 2. The fridge thing was unforgiveable. One of the worst scenes to ever be put on film. There were other things too, but what the film did right the FILM DID RIGHT. It was downright inconsistant.

For a simple saturday afternoon flick it is fine. It could have been great if they ahd done some things differently.

I still consider it a worthy entry and I try REAL hard to look past the really bad stuff when I watch it.

But what did the film do right?

On a related topic, did anyone see South Park a few weeks ago, featuring George Lucas and Steven Spielberg raping Indy several times?

It's funny 'cause it's true.

Well... I still have not seen Indiana Jones& The Kingdom Of The Crystal skull, and peoples opinions on it seem to be pretty divided. My hopes were high, just because I am a big fan of Harrison Ford's films, but even he is in some crappy films now and then.

If you're going to see it, then keep your expectations very low. Trust me on this one.

This was a pretty great BluRay release. Too bad the other films haven't been released...and too bad BluRay couldn't fix the severe problems with the film.

But, alas, Paramount did the BD justice.

On to the film, the tone of the movie was exactly what Lucas wanted. He's an artistic asshole. The tonal difference from the serials the first three films were based on to the 1950's alien adventures is reflected in the Crystal Skull, but that doesn't mean its good. It's really crap. They set out to make a B-movie. They succeeded.

There is absolutley nothing wrong with the story. The problem with this film is the execution. Too many bad scenes, bad dialogue, and bad acting by Marion. The plot is great and the movie has some great scenes but it is too inconsistant. Mac was a waste. The final scene blows in terms of tone but could have been done right. Everything was there but Lucas screwed it up.

People have to realize that before they see this film that in the 50's aliens were huge. This movie establishes that they do exist right off the bat. So there is no trickery on the story until the end.

I just see this film for what it could have been. Jones was Jones except for one scene when he sees Marion again.

I get so frustrated thinking about this movie.

I disagree. The story is where it went wrong in the beginning. Even Steven said in the documentaries he didn't want to do aliens. It's George's wild hair.
