Default The Fifth Element

So... Ten years later I finally get around to watching The Fifth Element.

This is a cult film with a HUGE fanbase. I have just never got around to watching it. I just had the feeling that it was a cheesy chunk of horsesh*t.

So I just sat down and watched it. My verdict?

See above.

This is a very stupid and disappointing slab of cardboard sci-fi. While attempting to be socially relevant, this film just ends up noisy and stupid. Luc Besson should be ashamed.

The only thing the saves The Fifth Element from being a total monstrosity is Mila Jojovich. Her time onscreen is a fun and loopy joy. Everything else is not-so-good.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!

This movie ROCKS!!!!!!

I had the same opinion as you the first time I saw this film, but I gotta say that it is one of the most interesting films ever made. The direction alone is phenomenal. There is nothing like it. Everything about the film is original and Chris Tucker is great in this film.

It is meant to be zany and different and it is one hell of an entertaining film.

This is one of those movies I guess has to grow on some people, but I liked it from the start. I also have to give props to the villain, Commissioner Gordon. That dude seems to transform himself with every movie he's in.

Cool

I think your going to stand alone on your evaluation of this flix Stubblecat...
Most peeps love this movie, myself included... I especially loved their concept of a future city
with the controlling big brother aspect... And I really liked "Gary Oldman" he was such a abstract
kind of villain and he played his part well... And what about "Chris Tucker" as Ruby Rhod,
was he not a very different kinda rock star like personality, he cracked me up in this movie... lol !!!
The whole thing was non stop action and entertainment... And then of course there was the lovely,
extremely sexy "Milla Jovovich" running around wearing a few rubber bands or something just barely covering
her tender bits and looking so very frail and innocent...

This movie came out at the same time that Air Force One did and that is when I discovered Gary Oldman. I can say without ANY doubt that he is the GREATEST actor of our time. He is different in everything he does. He is a pure joy to watch. There is truely nobody like him.

I've got to go mid-road here with this one. Initially I thought the movie was really cool, then for some reason I went back and watched it a few years later and it seemed pretty goofy and odd and I started wondering what I had seen in it. Then I watched it just recently on broadcast TV and it wasn't too bad. So overall it's a pretty decent movie.

I guess you just have to be in a certain frame of mind to enjoy it. Like how I 'get' Starship Troopers and other people see it as this big pro-military propaganda piece.

I'll just chalk this one up to individual taste.

Ah Starship Troopers, another film I like. Now this is one I enjoy just for entertainment value, I've never looked into it as military propaganda per se, just set in their war time. Although to be honest, I could do without some of the more gruesome scenes, like when the one soldier was torn in half by one of the bugs. So aside from the gratuitous violence, it's enjoyable.

The Fifth Element is a perfect example of a film that was met with mixed reviews upon release, and is now considered as a classic by a sizable and loyal fanbase. Some movies just get a lot better with age, and The Fifth element demonstrates this perfectly.

Creative costuming and set design, colorful memorable characters (with the exception of the title character who was most bland of all)

Overall excellent move - gorgeous, humorous and witty!!!
