Default How many of you have Blu-Ray?

I am still stuck back in the none-HD age, and am still using my trusty DVD's which have served me so well in years gone by, and I really doubt I will be upgrading anytime soon. For one I don't have an HD television, for two I would rather not have to repurchase my entire DVD collection on Blu-Ray, and especially not for how much Blu-Ray titles sell for, and three I find the existing picture quality to be good enough for me. How about you though?

Well, like you said, for the people who find DVD to be the end all for now then Blu-ray does not matter. But, if you want the best quality and have an HD set then Blu-ray is the way to go. It is far better than DVD in terms of picture quality but if you don't have an HD set then it doesn't matter.

I think things will change a lot during this holiday season and prices on the movies will have to drop. And with the switch to HD here in the states on Feb 17th I think things will move along nicely.

I am with you Bruce Lee, in fact probably a little worst since I still have some movies on VHS which I watch from time to time. With this recession it will be a while before I change out.

I know exactly where you are coming from, cam. I still have some VHS also and am currently not in a position to be able to convert everything over. Until I convert everything to DVD, I don't see myself even trying to go to Blu-Ray.

I'm very happily a Blu-Ray convert. Any new titles I purchase are BD, and I'm buying a few select catalogue titles to replace some DVDs.

But otherwise I'm keeping most of the my original DVDs for the time being, or until BD prices drop substantially.

For the most part, I've even been selling off DVD titles that I just haven't watched in a while. It's time to simplify things.

Blu is amazing. However, there are some DVD titles out there that have incredible transfers and look amazing when they are upscaled to a solid TV.

But then there are the craptastic DVDs that look like pure shit, and watching them on a big TV is irritating as all hell. But even those DVDs look good on a small 30 inch TV. Also, I think a plasma screen is far more forgiving than a DLP or LCD. for me, at least, there is a greater loss of detail in a plasma screen.

But once again, this really comes down to the TV you own.

One thing that will change this is when studios really start packing BluRay with lots of bonus material that ISN'T available on DVD. Right now, film only BluRay or ports of old DVD material just won't cut it.
