Default The Dark Knight - BD

Woot!

Yup, if you don't have Blu-Ray by now, this is pretty much the title which may convince you to switch over.

As you can see above, my copy is the Future Shop Canada exclusive Steelbook version. Pretty to look at...

I loved that on the Blu-Ray version director Christopher Nolan chose to integrate the IMAX-shot sequences into the film seamlessly, so as you watch a scene in 2.35:1, it subtly changes over to 1.78:1 for some beautiful shots. Especially dazzling are the aerial cityscapes. BD normally looks perfect, but the IMAX sequences actually look perfecter, if you will.

I've only breezed through the extra stuff on the 2nd disc, but I'm happy to say that it's all in 1080p for once.
Included on the BD version is the documentary Batman Unmasked: The Psychology Of The Dark Knight, which is a nice feature-length extra.

The only true disappointment is the lack of acknowledgement for Heath Ledger's amazing turn as the Joker. They must have shot endless test footage for makeup, hair, clothes and mannerisms in the production of the film. Sadly, there is nothing Joker or Ledger-related to be found. A shame, really.

So one small quibble for an amazing Blu-Ray set. A must-own, for sure.

I love this BD release. The special features are great and the shots in IMAX make BD look absolutely stunning. I cannot believe how good it looks.

I also really liked the short feature on how they did the Tokyo building jump. That is some amazing stuff that they were doing. It just goes to show how far Nolan is willing to go to make it look real. All Hollywood directors need to take a look at what Nolan and company are doing.

I love this film.

BUT...I was a bit displeased with the transfer. I mean, it had tons of edge enhancement, far more than I would have expected. Plus, the transfer seemed really dark, too...it looked so dark on my TV, the lights in people's eyes are SO bright but you couldn't see much detail.

Anyways...I really loved this movie. I recommend it to everyone!!
