Default The Dictionary

Have you ever just paged through the dictionary or read it page for page? We used to have to copy dictionary pages for punishment in grade school but it always came out as more of a reward for me.

When I was a kid, I used to read pages from the dictionary but I made it more of a game. I would scan the words and when I didn't know the word, I would try to guess the definition by what it sounded like. I know it sounds rather strange but I guess I was a rather strange kid.

i tried reading it when i was younger, but i always found another book that was more interesting. although i do love how in the movie "the baxter" both michael showalter and michelle williams' characters are reading it for fun at the same time and share their favorite word definitions. so cute!

I love thumbing through the dictionary and picking out a word I don't know and testing it out. I also like to look up commonly used words to see if they are used correctly. Like the word "virtually" or "patriotic". :D

I did that when I was much younger and doing literature. I wanted to increase my vocabulary skills, there was a time when I did a similar thing for spelling bee and scrabble.

I cant help but pass this along to you all. I watched it this week and as soon as I read this thread I knew I had to if I didn't I would feel I was letting you all down for something quite funny (at least to me it was).

Interesting.. I have to say, I've never read the dictionary, except for the purpose of defining a word. Maybe that's why MENSA turned me away. That, and I couldn't solve the rubik's cube. ah-well.

When I was learning to play scrabble and in a bid to win my mom, who was teaching us. I would constantly go through the dictionary looking for unusual words where I could get good scores.

When I was in elementary school we were encouraged to search the dictionary as well as the thesaurus for words to include our vocabulary. I hated it.
