Outlander was the first of 6 books written by Diana Gabaldon which comes under the genre of Time Travel. Outlander was the first book (called Cross Stitch in the UK) and followed by Dragonfly in Amber; Voyager; Drums of Autumn; The Fiery Cross; A Breath of Snow & Ashes.
Not usually my type of genre but the story and it's characters are so captivating and they are probably the only books I have ever read more than once. Here's a link to what the story is all about: Outlander (novel) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia What captivates me most about the stories and Gabaldon's writing is that the characters are so interesting with some marvellous one-liners. Clare Randall and Jamie Fraser the Scottish Highlander she meets up with after she steps through standing stones on the banks of Loch Ness near Inverness (that's in Scotland UK for those who don't know) make a superb double-act - she fiesty and he sexy, romantic but a man for a'that! ![]() We are taken through some breathtaking history where Gabaldon brings it to life on the page. The right director could make this series a box-office hit... providing they got the main two characters right. In the US, Jamie Fraser has a huge following! There's an organization called the Ladies of Lallybroch - Lallybroch being the fictional estate Jamie's family own back there in the 1700s - and they make a regular visit to Scotland to visit the banks of Loch Ness and Inverness! (I'm lucky, I pass by it very regularly and even though I know the stories are made up, I can't help but remember Jamie Fraser!) S'cuse me, I'll have to go and have a lie down in a darkened room! |
