Default david foster wallace

i just heard that david foster wallace committed suicide over the weeked. he is best known for the novel "infinite jest". his wife found him-he hung himself. he was only in his 40's,and had become quite well known and praised. i have only read one of his short stories, but wanted to read more. sad to hear of his passing.

I was sadden to hear this, he was a true writer... He had a gift for it, he was also a good speaker...
I think he was teaching English lit and creative writing at Pomona College there at Claremont, Calif where he died...
I guess you just never know what is going on in peoples minds...

RIP

It was the same with John Kennedy Toole who wrote "A confederacy of dunces", he also commited suicide in -69 after a series of dramatic events in his life while trying to get his work published. The book ended up not being published until 11 years after his passing. He was postoumesly awarded with the pulitzer prize for fiction.

The book itself is a brilliant comedy with a dash of drama, i highly recommend it.

'Infinite jest' By wallace seems like an interesting piece, i think i'll be looking into that.

Default That is so sad

I have never read his work or even heard of him before his suicide but it saddens me to hear that anyone has reached a level of despair that death becomes preferable to living. What genre(s) did he work in?

a confederacy of dunces is a highly overlooked novel - it's also one of my favorites if you couldn't tell from my icon
