Default Has Hollywood Lost Its Spark?

Some people are saying that many of the big-budget films produced by Hollywood are becoming increasingly generic.

I don't know about this, some movies released recently have been a bit passé and cliched, although every now and then you do get a really good movie.

I think it's just hard for them to churn out an idea that hasn't been regurgitated in some way, shape or form already. It ties into the notion that there are no more original ideas, that we as a society have reached our creative ceiling and now only through extreme overtones are we able to pass something off as "new", while in fact it's already been done in some shape before. Name a current movie, and undoubtedly you can find a story that in it's foundation had the same exact theme. Varied circumstances, same movie.

Or so my zookeeper tells me.

I don't blame only Hollywood for this. Most of the movies are seen as a business. They make the charts based on sold tickets, and I am pretty sure that more people would kill to see Rambo 49993 (don't know the number they are at) than would go to see .. don't know .. The Hours, Lions for Lambs (since it's a brand new one) or any other "hard" movie. The movies we like as people with an exquisite taste for "good" and complex stuff don't break the box office records. They try to give people what they need and also put a good one for us

Not matter the problems Hollywood might face, I still think they have a lot to say .. still. And I am so glad when, among many low quality movies made for the masses, they make one that really gives me a reason to live

Sometimes its hard to find an appropriate thing to make movies about. There has been so much turmoil in society these days there is a fine line between entertainment and upsetting topics. Lots of things feel repetitive but some are still better repetitions.
