I just saw this today. It was a good movie but overrated by the critics, I think. Prior to going, I heard that it got 4 out of 5 stars and that it was a movie even adults would enjoy. Special effects and cinematography aside, it sounded at times like it was about a bunch of kids squabbling and teenage boys having a testosterone-driven fight.
On the good side, the fight-scenes did make my heart race and I just have to say that Prince Caspian and High King Peter are uber-good looking. A lot of the dialogue in the story did want me to go and read all seven CS Lewis books on the Chronicles of Narnia. |

The second installment of the CS Lewis series was a good one, however I didn't like it quite as well as The Lion The Witch and The Wordrobe. While still very much enjoyable, it wasn't quite as engaging as the first. It actually took me a little bit to get into it from the beginning - for the first ten minutes of the film I wasn't even sure I was in the right movie. Once it go going though, there was still plenty of story and action to keep it interesting and fun to watch, though the entire film seemed a little 'dark' to me... and when I say dark, i mean literally dark. A lot of the scenes were nighttime scenes and making for some rather drab cinematography. Overall I would still recommend this film. It has a great message, was plenty entertaining and still leaves me waiting for the next - I just hope they don't wait as long in between sequels this round. I think that hurt things a bit for this film since so many other washed out fantasy films came out in the interim. I'd give this film an overall B/B- |
