Default Mama Mia-boy friendly?

I've got a set of tickets for Mama Mia or any Universal movie through 9/30/2008 and have been debating dragging the husband to Mama Mia and letting him choose the second movie. How bad is this movie for a guy to go see? Will I have to feed him a manly dinner before as well?

If I drug my guy to Mama Mia, I would owe him a whole lot more than dinner. If it's not an action film or some type of martial arts movie, forget it. He probably wouldn't even watch it at home because he absolutely hates musicals.

It depends on your musical tastes. My father would just love to see this, I have no doubt. Most wouldn't go for it I guess-it might just be an age thing more than anything.

if he can handle the musical aspect of the movie, he might like it. when i saw it there were some guys in the audience (usually with their wife or girlfriend) but i could hear them laughing throughout the movie (espeically this one guy who laughed more than me sometimes, lol) so i suppose it kind of depends on your guy.

Default Musical movie is not that bad

Yup, depends on your guy. What I can say is that maybe you're right that musical movies may be stereotyped as "girly" movie or whatever similar, so guy might not like it. But based on some comments written before, I think it's not a bad idea ask him to go. Just give it a try!

Cool

Well ok I'll give you a guys side of this...
On dates I have been to more than a couple of musicals that I didn't want to watch...
I can appreciate that these musicals are good and exhibit talent... But being that there are no
car chase scenes, explosions, fighting or shootings I'd much rather be cleaning out a septic tank
or at least doing something constructive with my time... But I have been able to watch these things
and after been able to discuss the good and bad points of the musical... And as far as musicals go
this should be a good one... I love Meryl Streep and I like that Brosnan guy [Remington Steele] pretty good too...
But like the "cinema lover" said if I have to be subjected to the torture of watching this "Mama Mia" thing
I'm going to be expecting a whole lot more than some lame ass dinner afterwards...
I'm thinking something more along the lines of sex and not just sex, but kinky sex...
Like maybe you could throw in some acrobatics or contortionist moves...

I'll chime in as a guy who has 1 wife, 2 daughters, 1 mom, 1-and-a-half sisters (long story) and zero males in the family:

Mamma Mia, to me at least, is pretty guy-friendly. Sure, it qualifies as 'Chick Flick' by definition, but the music of ABBA is actually pretty guy-neutral. There are some pretty gals in it, and the male actors are all pretty much known for playing 'manly' roles in the past.

I'd go see it if Mrs. Stubbs asked me to.

CopyCat, when you are married you don't have to do kinky sex any more. Sorry to tell you. Take it as a warning.

I didn't take my husband to this. He actually likes girly movies, but doesn't like musicals. I went with my mom, and we had a good time.

Speak for yourself, Fidget!

I'll admit that after you're married things definitely change. After you have kids things change even moreso. But that just means that you have to get creative and work on it.

And don't get me started on the whole 'Men's sexual peak VS. Women's sexual peak', because my wife and I are both 36 and I probably peaked at 22...

I thought this thread was about Mamma Mia Anyway, this movie is not boy friendly, the ultimate chick flick and a boy free zone.
