Default The Dark Knight vs. Titanic

So...just to add another Dark Knight thread to the many in existance...

...will we see the ship sink this year?

This past weekend, THE DARK KNIGHT beat out STAR WARS as the second highest grossing motion picture, domestically, of all time. And it beat it by ten million in less than one month's time.

So what do you guys think?

Cool

Well I think a very large part of the movies success is due to the timely death of Heath Ledger...
I really did enjoy the movie, but without Heath's death I don't think it would have done
any better than any of the other Batman movies...

I doubt that's the case. The first one was a big hit and this is building on that. People who didn't see the first one in a theater are now interested in the story, and the graphic novel fans are more charged up as well knowing that the movies are following the drawn stories so closely.

It will be interesting to compare this BO with the third movie and see if it continues to grow.

You have to consider Titanic's legacy thus far. When the dust is settled methinks the great ship will still be ahead. That thing was #1 at the box office for months straight, you have to remember. Tropic Thunder has already pushed Batman from its perch.

And once you factor in all those videocassettes, soundtracks, DVDs (both versions) and other related merchandise, it's a hard one to beat.

And there's the whole Academy Award stockpile, too.

Well if you are right then "The Dark Knight Returns"
which is the next movie in the batman series will be even
bigger than this one... We'll have to wait and see, but I don't think so...

The Dark Knight is so much better than Titantic. It will not win anywhere near as many Oscars as Titanic because of its genre.
