Default Terminator Salvation-My Review

Terminator Salvation( starring Christiam Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin and Bryce Dalls Howard) ended up beating my expectations on all levels. The story was nice and tight. The acting was exactly as it should have been. There have been a lot of negative reviews about Bale's performance as John Connor as being flat. They are dead wrong. He nails Connor perfectly. What people forget is that he IS John Connor by the time this movie starts. He is the man he was always meant to be. We are just there to see the events transpire.

Sam Worthington plays a character named Marcus Wright. Can't say much about this character without spoiling some major plot points. But, I will say that critics are calling his performance much stronger than Bale's and that is by design. Worthing is playing the charcter he is meant to play as is Bale.

Anton Yelchin, who also stars in the new Star Trek film, plays Kyle Reese in this film. He does an incredible job of portraying the same character that Michael Beihn did in the original. Again, I couldn't be more satisfied with his ability to portray the character as he is meant to.

Howard plays Connor's wife Kate in this film. She is the main surgeon for the resistance and very valuable to them on different levels. She is wayt under developed for this film and it shows. There was definately a lot cut out that initialy invoved this character, which makes her more of an after thought Rather than being the central character she should have been.

As far as the story goes I thought it was put out there perfectly. It does nothing to dishonor the original 3 films. But, in fact, it enhances them. The action was great. I was initialy upset that McG was the director as all he had done was really the 2 Charlie's Angels films. I thought they were commiting franchise sucide when he came on board. But, what I later found out is that this guy had the passion to make this the movie that fans wanted. There is a great story behind what he weant through to get this movie made. I am sure you can find the story online somewhere. I read it in last weeks Entertainment Weekly. The action makes sense and is not there just to blow things up. My only real complaint about this film is that it should have been longer. Even though it comes in at 2 hours you can tell that a lot was cut out. The movie moves at such a pace that not a single second is wasted. It is go go go from the very beginning.

I am hopeful that the next movie can be great but they need to tread softly when doing it as to not destroy what has come before. This movie is great on so many levels and I very much look forward to seeing it again soon.

8/10.

On a related note, I have to say that I really like the score to the film by Danny Elfman. I have never liked Elfman's work and don't own any of his music. He is to bizzare for my tastes but this piece if work is outstanding. He gets the emotion right as well as the action and themes. It is great to listen to.

There is nothing to the bad reviews for this film. This is a solid Terminator film.
