Why do you think this behaviour is unique to celebs? I think these things happen so often that they don't even make the news any more - except celeb gossip.

No way!!! The news about Amy Winehouse is new to me. It's strange the way they behave. Do they actually believe that such actions do not have dire consequences?

Well I always thought a lot of actors were actors because they were good at not dealing with their own reality. Self-medicating with drugs is just another manifestation.

Alcohol and drugs is nothing more than a form of "self medication"... celebrities certainly aren't exempt to emotional depressions that often lead to such behavior... if nothing else the added stress of money and being under a public microscope would probably add to the problem rather than the reverse.

There's something to be said for being a simple, poor nobody like myself.

Problems are definitely not unique to celebs, however the difference here is two fold. Firstly that they are in the public eye and so are spotted more easily and so it is brought to people's attention. And secondly, they can afford to do it more than the rest of us can do. So perhaps they do it more because they have the money to blow on it.

It's nice to be able to escape into anonymity sometimes. I'd hate to be under what seems like a public microscope 24/7. I think I'd go nuts if I were in their shoes if I couldn't find a way to just escape and live like a normal person.

I do think the constant attention and pressure to be perfect does cause many problems. The ease with which they can acquire drugs also makes it easier to slide. With plenty of liquid funds and not many places that will say no to providing alcohol and tobacco products even to minors its easy to think the laws don't apply to you, until you realize you are dying as a result.
