I read that he said this in open court... "Snipes read aloud from a prepared apology, calling his actions a "costly mistakes" but never mentioning the word "taxes." He said he was the victim of crooked advisers, a liability of wealth and celebrity that attract "wolves and jackals like flies are attracted to meat. I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance." But I guess the judge didn't buy it... ![]()

According to ABC News: Wesley Snipes Slammed With 3 Years Jail, Mr Snipes 'contended that he did not file business returns because he "was personally not subject to taxation because he was a 'stateless person' or 'nonresident alien,'" or a "'nontaxpayer,'"...' Now you tell me, did a vampire bite him?

Must have drawn a judge that wanted to impress upon people that he wasn't swayed by someone's fame. So many judges have given obviously guilty stars a free pass or slap on the wrist that I can understand but I do think the sentence is overly harsh.

I totally agree. Now mind you, I'm not saying what he did was acceptable by any stretch of the imagination, but when you see cases involving child molestation, rape and other crimes against persons that walk away with a slap on the wrist compared to a financial crime where someone gets a heftier year sentence, it's really irritating.
