"Actress Anne Heche has blamed the cancellation of TV series Men In Trees for her inability to pay child support. The star was granted a reprieve in the monthly payments of $14,978 to her ex-husband Coley Laffoon for their six-year-old son Homer. But Heche has been ordered by a judge to provide up-to-date income and expense information for the case - as she claims she also can no longer afford to pay Homer's school fees, the mortgage on her house in Canada where Men In Trees was filmed, the rent on her California home, and car expenses. In court papers, she says, "I am continuing to look for work, but I have no offers pending and the impending strike by the Screen Actors Guild reduces my prospects for work even further, Since January 18, 2008, I have been unemployed and had no income from employment except for one very short-term contract for a movie role for which I received a total of $65,000 approximately the amount I received for one episode of Men In Trees. I do receive some residuals from previous acting work. However, the amounts are nominal and are offset by recurring business expenses that must be paid whether or not I am working."


boo hoo! your show got cancelled because it was terrible and now you're broke, what happened to all the money you made from the show before since apparently you made almost $65,000 an episode. (can we say overpaid!?) hm...and no new work coming in? why am i not surprised?

Wowzer... $15k a month in child support - are you kidding me? That's a bit of a ridiculous amount if you ask me. She should pay *something* though... if work is that scarce, then bummer... maybe she'll have to sell one of those spare houses she has lying around. Besides, I thought she moved in with her co-star from the men in trees show? (The show actually was half way decent... and I am about the furthest thing from an Anne Heche fan). She's an odd little cookie, but then, I think she had a pretty screwed up childhood to boot.

I'm with you though - hard to believe that someone making all that money isn't smart enough to tuck some away. $65k an episode is obscene.

Wow I didn't know it was that much for an episode! She's not the most talented cookie either. I thought it was just spousal support, I had no idea there was a child involved. While the amount is ridiculous... it is for the little one.

That has to be the dumbest damn excuse for something I have read lately. While I do agree thats a big chunk to pay in CS come on, you know they base that off what you make so its not as insane as it seems, but her thoughts/excuses sure are.

If they base it off what you make, can't she go back to family court and have the order changed if she's not working now, until she gets another job?

And if she isn't working anymore, why doesn't she sell one of her houses so she has one less payment???

If you are not working then they will base it off your earning potential. Since she has shown that she has the potential to earn absolutely heep loads, I can't see them bringing it down much at all.

I agree, even if you figure conservatively at four episodes a month (one a week) she was bringing in 260k a month. 14k is nothing compared to the overall sum, a mere 5.38% of her income. Any parent can tell you spending less than 10% on their 6yr old is a bargain.

I think that the calculation is approximately 25% of the household income if there is just one child involved, but I think that 25% is after taxes. What she was paying was nothing compared to what she made. And nothing compared to what he would have experienced if the parents had stayed together.
