Default Melissa Etheridge won't pay taxes!

Seems she reacted to Proposition 8 in California. I guess she feels like she doesn't have to pay taxes either.
Melissa Etheridge to California: 'You Can Forget My Taxes' - Melissa Etheridge : People.com

"Gay people are born every day. You will never legislate that away." I love this quote. She's so right.

And she'll get to sit and think about how right she is and enjoy her victory and smugness whilst she sits in jail. I certainly won't miss that kind of attitude. Would she stop paying because her presidential candidate didn't get in too?

Wow, there are some things that are never going going to change, some believe in who they are, whether it's religion, matters of the heart, marriage (same sex) or who they vote for. So for some things we have to agree to disagree.

I did hear about the legality of gay marriage being overruled in CA. That must be a bummer for a lot of people. But you are SO right. I wonder what would happen if people did stop paying taxes just because they hated what the government did...and that would be A LOT of people. At least the IRS has a solid lead on who the tax-evaders are (I mean, is...) now.

What a lousy excuse to skip paying one's taxes. Surely she could have found a better excuse. There will always be things we don't agree with but this is not one of the ways to show disagreement.

If we all stopped paying our taxes because we disagreed with government policies there would be a lot of hurting people out there. Anyone receiving any type of assistance from a government funded program would be out of luck. That includes the public welfare system and social security. While I agree a lot of programs need reformed, their are legitimate reasons for most of them and our country would be hurting without them.

Well, I guess saying we will stop paying our taxes is better than my grandfather's solution to everything. Every time the politicians did anything Gramps didn't agree with his solutin was always the same, just line'em up and shoot'em all. Don't get me wrong. Gramps loved this country and was proud of his service in WWII. But he was always convinced that, if we didn't keep the guys in Washington in line, we'd end up like some of these countries we were off fighting in. Gramps has been gone for about eight years now but I still here his voice whenever Washington screws up or at least whenever Gramps would think they had screwed up.
