Okay, so I had to post this as a question because I wanted everyone to be aware. You can still, of course, let me know what you think. (If Pagan; if you want to make comments like "let them kill her" keep it to yourself.) This was sent to me by Christopher Penczak, Pagan author/Witch/friend.***
URGENT: Halt Woman's Execution for 'Witchcraft' To Those Who Share Our Deep Concern: Please join us in calling for the immediate pardon and release of FAWZA FALIH [DEL:Falwah Faliz], a Saudi Arabian woman who has been sentenced to death by beheading for the alleged crime[DEL:s] of "witchcraft." As Human Rights Watch has declared, the conviction of Fawza Falih is a travesty of justice. A letter to His Royal Highness KING ABDULLAH has been drafted and signed by clergy and members of various faith traditions. The letter may be read online where you may also sign it. Please do so as soon as possible at:HALT EXECUTION OF SAUDI WOMAN FOR "WITCHCRAFT" Petition Thanks. Lady Carrigan, I do not think Pagans would say this. I was simply warning others not to say things of this nature. ...and you are correct. It was supposed to read "If not Pagan"....I had to re-edit several times and it seems to have made "not" disappear, which is unfortunate. I have been Pagan for many years and the Pagan community are mostly very caring and would care about this. |

Why would you assume that Pagans would make a comment as "let them kill her"? If the person who sent this to you is a Pagan AND your friend, you would know that Pagans live by the rule of Harm None. As a pagan and a witch I'm insulted that you even said that!
As for the article itself and the petition, of course this woman should be pardoned if the only reason for her arrest and consequent execution is for being a witch. |

I find it very unfortunate that Saudi Arabia continues to execute people for crimes that cannot be objectively proven, which is what witchcraft accusations are.
However, I think those of us identifying ourselves as witches only hurt the cause by publically objecting. "Witch" is a very sensitive word. Penczak is using the word differently than the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but the Saudis are unlikely to recognise that. Saying "I'm a witch, and I'm protesting you executing another witch, because she's not really a witch," is just not going to get us anywhere. |
