What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?

Beginning this month, May, 2008, taxpayers will receive
an Economic Stimulus Payment.

This is a very exciting new program that I will explain
using the Q and A format.

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Hush up!

Yeah so China can in turn buy up America...
I recently read this...

For years, investment between the U.S. and China flowed one way, with American firms spending billions in the Asian nation. But the Beijing government's $5-billion stake in Morgan Stanley and $3-billion investment in the private equity firm Blackstone Group brought China's overall investments in U.S. firms to $9.8 billion in 2007, up from $36 million the year before, according to Thomson Financial.
By comparison, U.S. investment in China was $2.6 billion last year, down from $3 billion in 2006, said China's Ministry of Commerce.
But many Chinese entrepreneurs prefer to keep a low profile, and experts say those figures don't include a lot of investment activity happening under the official radar...

...and we are sold to Hu Jintao of China... The way China is buying American companies and lending money to the Bush administration, it can own the US in the foreseeable future... China could conquer the US without having to fire a single bullet, you could call this a financial nuclear bomb...

The stimulus packages really don't make all that much sense to me. All they will do is drive the national debt even higher and ensure that the problems go on for generations more.

They don't make sense... but we could use the money, so I'm not going to say "no" to it.

However... IRS messed up on ours! We were supposed to get $1800, but only got $1200. I'm so mad I could spit.

Yes I know what you mean we were supposed to get back 2100 and we only got back 1600...

I don't plan on budgeting anything promised to me into my spending plan. Yes I am owed a refund, yes a stimulus check should be headed my way, but its the IRS. Budgeting on the refund window or assuming the IRS will get a new program effecting millions right on the first try is just asking for trouble. And I mean why be angry you didn' get what "you deserve" when you could have not gotten anything like every other year? I keep hearing "Bush screwed me again" but he didn't have to give you a check. He could let you go bankrupt, default, and die penniless. So say thank you and make plans to get back the difference in peace already

Yes thats true But still more is better LOL..
I am doing what he wanted me to do with my money I am spending it to fix my home up to sell..
Oh boy and its already came and gone.. It didn't take that long to spend it..

Bush didn't give it so that we wouldn't go bankrupt, he did it to hopefully prevent the economy from crashing. The economy that he has screwed up. Don't make it out like he's the nice guy. I know my stimulus is likely going to line all his oil buddies pockets, with the cost of gas what it is these days!
