Default Remember when...

I'm having a nostalgic old fart moment so bear with me.

Remember the days of the drive-in movie?

Remember getting fined at the video store when you forgot to rewind?

Heck, remember the video tape at all??

My parents took me to see Porky's (!) at a drive-in theater because is was cheaper than paying a babysitter.

Thanks Mom and Dad!

And I can top the rental fine... How about when the local video store rented out their top-loaders? I remember a local place sending out a double-sided list of all of their movies for rent, so you and the family could plan a nice videotape-watching weekend.

Dude, do you remember how all the rental stores had a melted VHS (or Beta!!) on the wall at the counter to remind you not to leave them in the hot car??

The other day I was telling my kids about listening to music when I was a kid and my oldest said "on a record"? and I said "yeah, what do you know about records?" and she said they are like big CDs! LOL!

I never saw the melted tape. But now that you've mentioned it, I'm obsessed with it. I like the idea.

I've already indoctrinated my 3 & 5-year olds into the world of vinyl. They love the turntable.

And did you know that more vinyl is being produced now than any time in the last decade?
I have a pretty cool record store in my city and you can buy the newest Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Feist, Arcade Fire, etc... on vinyl.

I don't remember drive in's, but I did eat in Mel's Dinner at Disney World...
I don't know if that counts, but it was pretty cool... They had the little
speaker box thingys on a wire that you hang on the car window... And I do
remember seeing the melted VCR tapes at the movie retal places and the
"Be Kind, Rewind" signs...

The A&W restaurant (does any Non-Canadian here know what I'm talking about?) in my hometown back in the early 80s was a drive-up, where the carhops would come to your car and take your order. And yes, the tray hung on your window sill, just like in American Graffiti.

we had an A and W like that here in my town too (Davenport, Iowa....do you remember it Aperio?) It was pretty sweet, but they tore it down probably almost 10 years or more ago and now it's a family video. But you can go to Sonic and get something like it, but the vibe isn't the same.

Oh do I! Actually there are still some floating around that are a part of Long John Silvers. It's not the same as the days with the speaker on the car windows, but at least they aren't dead. Unfortunately though last time I was home, we did go out to eat there and my fresh frosty mug of root beer from the tap tasted strangely like perfume and maple syrup. Not quite the flavor i was hoping for.

As for the VHS fines for not rewinding - I had completely forgotten about that! I'm thinking Blockbuster needs to fine people with dirty fingers that return the movies all smudged. I swear 70% of the movies I rent from there had problems mid way through with an 'unable to read disc' message from my player. Oddly I've never once had a problem with any Netflix disc.

Wow!!! How old are you guys?!?!

Kidding aside, I've never been to a drive-in movie. I do remember the Betamax. Does anyone remember Atari?
