Default Election 2008

Big topic, discuss it here!

Ground rules: No fighting.
As a rule people tend to be socially liberal, but their politics can be all over the board. Please respect others' opinions and views as we talk about the November-That-Will-Be.

I'll start this discussion by asking:

Does Barack Obama really stand a chance against John McCain?

Here's why I ask: Obama has tons of momentum, goodwill and he's incredibly popular.

But at the end of the day he's a Black Democrat and America has had a very powerful Republican party in control for the last 7 years.

If you check out the e-mail smear campaign against Obama (which tends to target older White religious voters), you'll see that whatever happens in the next few months will be very dirty. I won't link it, but you can find a lot of those e-mails in the Political section of Urban Legends Reference Pages .

And in a local alternative paper a few weeks ago, I read what perhaps could be the saddest truth. To paraphrase:

Obama will lose to McCain not for politics or campaigning, but for the simple fact that people are generally dumb.

His name is Barack (rhymes with "Iraq") Hussein (like "Saddam Hussein") Obama (rhymes with "Osama").

THAT is why I think McCain will win.

Discuss.

Hells yes.

I really don't think McCain is a strong candidate. I mean...I'm from Arizona and he was my Senator. I even voted for him a few times.

But I think Barack will Rock the Vote. BUT....the division in the Democratic party can only hurt him. If McCain won, it would all be Clinton's fault.

Speaking for non-Americans, Barack Obama as President would be a major step forward in calming down this horrible little planet we've got going on here.

I just hope I'm wrong in my feelings about the Republican party's sinister side.

And the apathetic youth and minority voters.
