Default Favorite Foreign Film(s)

I'm not a big foreign film buff and I do not usually watch them. However, occasionally I'll come across one I do enjoy or will have one recommended to me and it's a genuine surprise and treat.

One of those movies was Maria Full of Grace. We watched it in a Spanish class I had because it is completely in Spanish with English subtitles. It is about a girl, I forget which country she is from exactly but it is in Central America. She is a young teenager who becomes pregnant and needs money for her and her baby so she becomes a drug smuggler. It goes from there.

Another I enjoyed was The Orphanage. It is a Spanish horror film. It wasn't necessarily scary for me, few movies are. But it was interesting and held my attention despite having to read subtitles. It's not the typical horror movie Americans are used to with the blood, gore and sex all over the place. It was a nice change of pace and entertaining.

Any one else have any foreign films they enjoyed and would suggest others to watch?

Amelie would have to be mine. Love, love, love that one. I also enjoyed Like Water for Chocolate which is Spanish. Pan's labyrinth was quite good as well. And anything Disney translated into a foreign language.

99% of the movies i watch are foreign, from all corners of the planet. There would be too many to mention. Pan's labyrinth among the more recent, as well as "Das leben des anderen" (The lives of others). Which won the academy award over Pan as the best foreign movie that year. Jet-li's "Fearless" was really great. As well as the chinese movie "Curse of the Golden Flower" that also comes as highly recommended for those who like asian movies. There are numerous of productions i could name drop.

My favorite is a British film called "Snatch"... Its directed by Guy Ritchie, I like just about every film that he has done...
Another good one he did was "Shaun of the Dead"...

Maria Full of Grace was awesome. It's scary to know what poverty makes you do sometimes. I can't believe that people actually use young girls like that. It's almost as bad as forcing them into prostitution.

INNOCENT VOICES.

It is an awesome film on a true story of the Civil War in El Salvador and how they recruited child soldiers as small as 10 years old! It is a tear jerker but a MUST see.

I liked the Curse of the Golden Flower too. I love how they fight in these movies- so graceful with all the leaping and twirling. I also loved Shawn of the Dead and I really liked the Japanese versions of the Grudge and Pulse.
