Remakes of older games

We have been seeing a lot of remakes of older games in recent years, and I wanted to know how everyone else felt about them.

Personally, I feel that some of the remakes have been excellent, although others were entirely unnecessary or even terrible.

Remakes should always make attempts to offer something new, while not killing off the charm of the original.
