Maybe the DVD player had some issues. Did you try cleaning it? From time to time they do refuse to read disks and cleaning them might solve the issue. I have such a DVD player and it needs cleaning from time to time. After I solve this problem, it just works nicely.

I've run the lens cleaner thing, although its rather old so that could be the issue as well. I suppose 10+ years for a DVD player isn't too bad, but now I have no VCR as it was an all-in-one and my backup is just a DVD player. Maybe I'll ask for a new all-in-one for my birthday.

![]() I'm sorry I'm just getting around to helping you Spiderpig, but here goes... It is not unusual for dvd players to quit reading disc... It is caused by either the laser diode in the optical pickup assembly or by the digital decoder circuits becoming defective... Will it still play music CDs ok??? If so, that could mean the internal electronics is ok, but the laser optics are not working satisfactory for dvd... The laser beam must be much stronger to read a dvd disc compared with a music CD disc... And this could mean the laser diode has become weak and will read only music CDs, but not dvds... The cost of replacing the laser diode is about $100 !!! You can buy a new dvd player for $28 dollars and up at Wally World... So the choice is yours... ![]()
