Default Double Sided DVDs

I have seen this on occasion, but only rarely, where you get a DVD that has information on both sides. How are these made, differently than single sided? And given that it can be done, why isn't it done more often?

I personally hate double-sided DVDs. It is twice as likely to get a scratch as a regular DVD which means the movie will be effected. It is nice to have two movies in one box, but otherwise I really get annoyed.

I have no idea how they are made, but they always agitate me. I end up putting the second side into the machine first and go sit down, get my things ready then to realize I have to get up again and fix it.

If it's widescreen on one fullscreen on the other, that's fine... but heaven forbid the day i run across a dvd disc that i have to flip over to watch the entire movie... you'll see me self destructing into a messy slop of broken chips and splattered cheese.

I could really see the use of having these for some of the epic movies, it would work for those I think. Otherwise, having the wide screen and normal formats on separate discs does give you double the chance of having a usable movie in case of an accident.

I don't like double sided dvds unless they have widescreen on one side and fullscreen on the other. But I avoid them as much as I can since i prefer widescreen except for movies that have subtitles.

I really hate double sided dvds. They are harder for me to take care of then normal dvds and are more likely to be scratched. When a movie I really want is only available in that format, that is the only time that I buy them

Apparantly I am an idiot because I can never put the disc in the right way to have it play full screen. It drives me crazy. I do not like the discs because they are easily scratched (as mentioned in an earlier post) and because I am not smart enough (also mentioned earlier).
