Default Broadway Plays as Movies

I have been watching back to back plays as movies today as I need a bit of a brain break. While some are really good, some are just mediocre and others (that I refuse to own) just suck. Your take on Broadway on tape?

It depends. Are you watching actual recorded broadway plays, or movie versions of plays. I think movie versions can be done well, but inevitably lose the aspect of being there and seeing the actor, which is something I love.

I think it depends on how well the spirit of the play was captured. If I think it sucks, it's usually because I wasn't feeling the emotions.

I haven't seen a lot of Broadway on TV but I love 'The Phantom of the Opera' and was very happy to be able to see it on TV. It's definitely not the same thing and I never expected them to capture the ambience of the theater, but it was a good enough 'fix' for me.

Phantom of the Opera is quite good but I prefer watching it as a theater play. Les Miserables is also a good movie out of a theater play. But I don't really enjoy watching these movies that are from made from theatrical plays.
