Water Horse

I thought this was supposed to be a kids/family movie. I was excited to get a copy last week from the store. I watched it midweek and was rather scared by parts (not really but if I were a kid might have been terrified) and hadn't anticipated there being so much...anxiety inducing parts, lol. I thought it would be more fanciful, I mean its about a lock monster....

I have always been fascinated by the legends of the Loch Ness monster so am highly looking forward to seeing this. I don't have small children to watch it but thanks to your warning I will see it before letting my nieces watch it. You don't say whether you liked the movie overall or not?

That movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. That little Dwarf monster guy or whatever creeped me out!

I never saw or even heard of this Water Horse film however...

Any more info you can provide?

It was scary? I haven't seen it yet, but was hoping to get it at some point and watch it with the little ones. It's hard finding movies for a large range of ages, so now I'm thinking this would only be suitable for the preteen and not the younger ones. We saw the previews at the theater quite a while back, and everyone seemed interested. Oh well.

I didn't think it was scary at all. It's about a kid discovering a Water Horse or what later supposedly became known as the Loch Ness monster. The setting was during World War II so there are a couple of violent scenes with bombs and all but nothing really gory. I would think it's a PG-rated film.

They bomb the loch and the water horse gets angry and almost eats the kid who hatched him....its equivalent to the scene in Old Yeller where they go out to shoot him because he got rabies. Its not terribly violent, but it is disturbing on an emotional level. I cried and screamed and had bad dreams after watching Old Yeller at 8, and I don't doubt Water Horse would have done the same to me.

And PG means parental guidance, which tells you that there is a reason why you should be there to explain things to your kids if need be. Watching him almost get eaten is something my nieces would absolutely not like. I'm sure their mom had to either turn it off or fast forward if they watched this one. Its definitely not the happy movie it seems from the previews.

I haven't heard of this movie yet, but I think I will be looking it up. It sounds a good one, but then a lot of movies tend to be rather scary for kids. Even things like Happy Feet have some scenes in that I wouldn't let my little one see-where the killer whale is after the penguins and so on. It is a common theme I think.

Oh my. I think that's a bit more than a little one could really handle at a young age. I didn't see Old Yeller until I was in my teens, but it's not something I would've wanted to have seen much earlier either. I definitely think I'll be sticking to letting only the older one watch this one.
