Frankenhooker (1990)
![]() This film has a reputation for being gory and controversial, but it's in fact a really funny low-budget take on Frankenstein. Not gory at all, in fact the violence is so obviously faked that it almost seems to be purposely cheesy. Lots of bizarre fun from Frank (Basket Case) Henenlotter.

Forbidden Games (1952)
![]() A truly heartbreaking masterpiece. After a young girl loses both of her parents and her puppy to German gunfire during World War II, she's taken in by a kind rural family. Unfortunately, the experience of death twists her mind a bit and she becomes obsessed with collecting crosses to mark graves in an animal cemetery she creates. Profoundly sad and moving tale of how war can kill a child from the inside out.

The last DVD I watched was last weekend and it was one of our own. The hubby was off from work so we settled down and watched Flicka again for about the tenth time in the last few months. I love this movie, but I have to admit I'm starting to have nightmares about horses...

American Psycho -Uncut (2000)
![]() I guess this counts as the first time a Blu-Ray disc gets a mention here. I've been sort of putting this film off for the last 8 years, mostly because I didn't think it could match the intensity of the book. Obviously it doesn't. But it is a very well-made film and on BD it looks spectacular. Of interesting note: This film carries a bit of Canadian national pride, believe it or not. The director, Mary Harron, is the daughter of Don Harron, who was a very well-respected talk-show host in the 1970s and 1980s. He was our Merv Griffin, so to speak. Funny as well as informative.
