Default 1st date movie

When going on a first date, what kind of movie should one pick? Should it be a tear-jerker or maybe an action or perhaps even a horror movie Which one?

I've always thought a comedy or perhaps a romantic comedy would be appropriate unless the two people are serious horror fans. Nothing would suck more than an awkward ride home after a movie someone didn't like but sat through anyway.

If there's a genre you two have in common, I would recommend that one then. Other than that, I suggest a good neutral movie. No chick flicks, no hardcore action movies unless both of you really enjoy it. I agree with purplefdu that maybe comedy might be the way to go. Also, look for a movie worth talking about after. Like, Sex and the City, I heard was something both guys & gals enjoyed.

Personally, I wouldn't go see a movie on a first date: I'd do something where you can sit and talk to each other and get to know each other. Besides that, I'd find something neutral and light. I think Wall-E would be a great first date movie.

It would have to be a comedy - that way I'd know whether the guy I was with had the same sense of humor as me.

Most guys don't really like girlie films and most gals don't really enjoy stuff like, say, 'Apocolypse Now', which is fine - we all have our own preferences. But if me and the guy laugh at the same things I'd know we had a good basis on which to build a great relationship

My vote would be for a comedy also. Everyone pretty much covered the topic. If there is no specific genre youre both big fans of, a comedy is a great mood setter. Hopefully, you'll both leave in a good mood, laughing, and you can even quote it later in the date to get the laughter rolling again.

Romantic comedy might work as well but I dont know if a guy is going to want to sit through that unless it's a decent one.

If one could just come across a new release that are like those rare comedy movies like Big lebowski, or Kingpin. Then you would be set, really good comedies are hard to find i think. Most new ones are just plain stupid or redundant. But perhaps there are some great old ones none of you have seen ?, they definately work i think.

I remember going on a first date when I was seventeen to see Arachnaphobia. I do not recommend going to see a spider movie for a first date-especially if you have a fear of spiders! I spent the whole time worrying that a spider or spiders might be crawling up my legs, lol. With my husband, our first date was staying at my aun'ts house and watching Star Trek-The Next Generation. We were both Star Trek fans, so that was ok with both of us, lol.

Oh you poor thing! Did you guys ever make it to a second date or did he think you were a complete weirdo I hate bugs myself I probably would have seen that choice of a movie as a reason NOT to go out with him
