![]() The quote goes like this: "When a willing victim dies in a trators stead, even death itself will work backwards." Because Aslan (God/who became the man Jesus) is without sin, He could be the only one who could fulfill the law for the guilty; He was innocent, so He could take the death penalty for the sinner. The evil one, (The White Witch) required Blood shed for the evil that Edmund had done. This matches up with Scripture: In the Old Testament God's Word says, "Without the shedding of Blood, there is no remission of sins." Aslan choose to die in Edmund's place even though Edmund hurt Him, and He fulfilled the witches claim for the life blood, But because HE is innocent, Death had no hold on Him. Remember, God/ Aslan has always existed, and goes back even before the White Witch/ (Satan), So the Law was fullfilled by Aslan's/ Jesus' shed blood for Edmund/ Us, But God was able to raise himself up to life again, because He was a pure, unblemished, Sacrifice in place of another. And Because the Children believed in Him, they got to dwell with Him forever...(See: "The Last Battle." By CS Lewis.) Also, I would recommend checking out "The Magicians Nephew." One of my favorite Gospel parallels in The Chronicles of Narnia, other than Christ Dieing in our place and Riseing form the Dead, is what He (as Aslan) did for Eustice in "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," When He "removes his layers"...See the book to find out what I mean; I don't want to spoil it for any one. ![]() Also, another important note, I think the "Stone Table" refers to God's 10 Commandments in Exodus Ch. 20 and Deuteronomy Ch. 5. (Feel Free to Check them out.) God Bless you and Thank you for this great Question. I think anyone who reads this will enjoy checking out: The Narnia Story |
