Default hairspray 2?

from The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)

"Movie musical Hairspray is heading back to the big screen - creator John Waters has signed a deal to write a sequel.

The 1980s hit was brought back to life last year with John Travolta cross-dressing to play Edna Turnblad.

The movie was a hit, grossing more than $200 million (GBP100 million) worldwide - prompting New Line Cinema bosses to turn to Waters for a follow-up.

Adam Shankman will reprise his role as director/choreographer, and he hopes to reunite as much of the original cast as possible.

Shankman tells Daily Variety, "I never thought much of musicals as franchises, but it certainly worked with High School Musical, and the idea of working with that cast again, and creating new material and music, is a dream come true.

"John (Waters) has such an extraordinary voice; we all can't wait to see what he has come up with."

well i thought the original ricky lake version of hairspray was great, and i liked the musical version as well (although it has to be seen in a completely different way). but i'm not sure about a sequel. it wouldn't work unless they could get the same cast back (especially john travolta and nikki blonsky), i'm glad the director/choreographer will be back i thought he was great.

not sure if waters is the right man for the script. not that i don't enjoy his writing...just not sure he's the one to go to for this type of movie. i mean the first movie was based on another person's writing, his movie was just the story's inspiration. and if it does do a good sequel, what will his die hard fans think of that? i'm sure they're already upset at the first movie in general, even if he had hardly anything to do with it. hm...thoughts?

I liked the Ricki Lake version more actually. I didn't mind watching the musical version. It was cute...what can I say? But to have a sequel seems out of place.

I really hope Nikki Blonsky returns. She is awsome as tracy.... its just.... she's now 19 and might soon get too old for the role. Well i hope not. if the hsm3 cast can do 3 films, so can she!

i think it would work for her, she has a youthful look and can play younger than she actually is. i'm not worried about that, just worried about how good the movie actually could be! haha

I'm rather worried about a sequel myself...I prefer the original as well although the new one was cute. I mean how can you not like John Travolta in drag? It might be worth keeping an eye on to see how it looks like its going on.

travolta really needs to stop embarrasing himself with goofy roles like this
