Default The Hobbit still in the works?

I remember right after the last Lord Of The Rings wrapped up, Peter Jackson was already discussing doing a film based off The Hobbit, but there has been very little news reported since then. Does anyone know if this movie is still going to be made, or is it stalled for the moment?

Totally in production, directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Produced by Peter Jackson and written/adapted by Jackson and Fran Walsh (who also adapted LOTR). It'll be broken into 2 films, utilizing subplots from other Tolkien works to pad out the story somewhat.

Ahh, glad to hear something is still in the works! I would also love to see films based off some of Tolkein's other work like Silmarillion, but I think Christoper Tolkein already stated that he is not interested in giving anyone the film rights to them, but things could always change I suppose.

I loved the Lord of the Rings and I am excited to hear that the Hobbit is still in production. With everyone feeling the effects of the economy, it is a wonder the film industry can still keep going but that is one area where I believe we will continue to provide support. This is a way to escape the chaos around you with everything going on in our world today we all need to escape for a while.
