You're right it doesn't, and I love Nightmare Before Christmas too. The music is just delightful even if the premise is a bit different. The Vince Vaughn movie does look good, though one of my favourites in recent years was probably 'Unaccompanied Minors'.
The classic though must be 'Its a Wonderful Life'. |

My favorite Christmas movie is Miracle on 38th Street, to original version. I have watched the remakes and I enjoy them but my all time favorite is the original. I also still enjoy watching the children's classics, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Clause is Coming To Town.

I like to start with the unconventional Christmas movies:
Die Hard 1 and 2 The Poseiden Adventure Gremlins Black Christmas (1974) Silent Night, Deadly Night... And then I move onto the more traditional fare. I was one of the few people who actually went to see A Christmas Story in the theater back in 1982. I'm a big fan of Miracle On 34th Street (the original), as well as the Alister Sim version of A Christmas Carol (or just Scrooge, as it's sometimes called). When it comes to TV specials though... I'm all about 3 big titles: A Charlie Brown Chistmas (and Vince Guaraldi's beautiful soundtrack!), How The Grinch Stole Christmas and the rarely-seen Twilight Zone episode from 1961, "Night Of The Meek", featuring Art Carney as a rundown drunken department store Santa Claus who discovers a sack which allows him to give anyone the one present they truly desire. It's a heartbreaking epsiode. I really wish it got airplay as a regular Christmas special.

I love A CHRISTMAS CAROL with George C. Scott.
I also need to see DIE HARD & DIE HARDER every Chirstmas, like Stubby says. I would also throw L.A. CONFIDENTIAL in there too. There are plenty of other non-traditional movies I love at this time of year, but I can't think of them. |
