Default urinating again?

i have a one year old basset. He has a doggy door that he goes out of two go potty and always does so. The other day, he had his girlfriend over (a beagle). She is not potty trained (uses those stupid puppy pads still) and she's almost 2! Anyway, she kept leaving the den and running outside and I thought she was going out to pee. When she left I saw she did pee in the corner. I used a good cleanser and cleaned it really weel but ever since then he's been peeing in the basement!! I've been telling him he needs to go out his doggy door and of course he looks so guilty...he knows what I'm talking about. We are going to borrow a shampooer and hopefully get the urine scent out of the carpet, but does anyone else have any suggestions? The spoiled guy can go outside whenever he pleases and has a nice fenced in yard!

Soak the pee spot with an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle to remove any trace of the urine. Make sure you use enough to soak through the carpet and pad.

It must be a sex-scenting thing at this point. You said it was his "girlfriend". Now he has to annouce his availability and virility!! Is he neutered yet? That usually helps with some of the male scenting issues. Otherwise, the person with the enzyme answer is right, just keep cleaning up and changing the carpet if you need to. I have plastic drop cloths and area rugs on my "babies" problem areas (bichons are notorious for not ever being potty trained completely!)

Cool

First off, is your dog neutered? My doberman pinscher isn't and he'll mark up a storm if he goes into my mother-in-laws house or my gma's house because they have pets that are older and have marked all over the place, even though they have done everything but replace the carpet. Your dog IS house trained, he just wants to mark where she's marked, it's a territorial thing and I would clean the carpet a few times and use some special pet-scent removal spray to see if that'll work. If not, I'm sorry to say, you may have to replace the carpet.
