Default Tailgaters

I've lived in a lot of different places where there were bad drivers but one thing that is done where I live here is tailgating. I've never been anywhere else that matches this area. No matter how fast you go or how slow you go there seems to be some idiot right up your tailpipe and they won't pass. Even flashing the brake lights rarely gets them to back off. Everywhere else I've ever lived people will pass with a little encouragement or back off.

Tailgating is annoying, I agree. I just ignore it and go on my merry way. My husband on the other hand gets all PO'd and uptight and starts acting like a jerk.

I have never understood the philosophy behind tailgating ???
I mean I thing most peeps slow down if someone is tailgating
them, I know I do... I'm like well if you didn't like the speed
I was going before, your really going to hate
this new slower speed...
lol !!!

If I get too aggravated by a tailgater, I usually will pull off to the side and wait for them to go on. It is just not worth the stress that I feel and slowing down just seems to make it worse. For some reason, the tailgaters rarely get why you're slowing so they still just sit on your bumper.

Is this a city versus countryside thing? It would almost seem like its a personal space issue, with city folks having a smaller personal space requirement than country peeps.

I would say so... I think people should tailgate in slower heavy city traffic...
By doing so you represent a smaller signature... There by allowing more
cars to fit in a smaller space... There by allowing traffic to flow faster
threw traffic lights... But in the country at highway speeds tailgating
is just dangerous and uncalled for...
