Default Snoring on 9-1-1 call

Anybody heard about the woman who called the Memphis Police 9-1-1 to report a possibl burglar outside her window and the responder fell asleep on her during the call. He was actually snoring over the phone.

Was this on the news or do you have a link to the story? That's absolutely incredible! Guess someone is looking for a new job right about now.

No one got fired, just a weeks suspension for the snoring dispatcher...
And I don't know, but being they have to have 24 hour coverage on 9-1-1
calls they may work a swing shift... I once worked one that was like 4 days on
and 4 days off... It was good because your working less than 6 months out of the
year with vacation... And it was 12 hour days, so I got over time every week...
But the kicker was it swapped from day to night ever week... I never got use to it,
that first day [or night] of transition, it was always hell to stay awake...
Well anyway here is the story in short...

Quote:
A Memphis woman who called 9-1-1 to report that she had been robbed at gunpoint earlier in the evening and was now hearing someone trying to break into her home said that she went on and on about her predicament for a full minute without getting any response from the dispatcher – and then she heard snoring on the other end of the line. When the caller asked “Are you there?” the dispatcher said, “Yes ma'am,” then asked for her address – at which point the caller hung up and called a different 9-1-1 agency in the hopes of reaching someone who was alert enough to send help. A Memphis Police Department spokesperson tells us that the dispatcher was suspended for seven days, and supervisor on duty that night was suspended for 20 days.

ONLY A SEVEN FREAKING DAY SUSPENSION?!

This almost sounds like a scene from some dopey comedy film, but it is in real life...and it is real serious!

Fire that bum, and maybe even throw him in the slammer for a little bit. There are certain things that people simply do not do! And this guy did them soooo... yeah.

Adding some more to the story: This happened sometime in January and it wasn't until some radio station got wind of it and repeatedly requested a copy of the tape that action was taken. In April...

What I find worse is that the supervisor got worse punishment than the dude who was snoring. Sure, if the supervisor knew the guy was asleep on the job then he was negligent but I am willing to bet the dude didn't know. Seems somewhat unfair-the sleeper should have shouldered the blame.

Where I work if you get caught snoozing they escort you to the operations managers office, then a supervisor goes with a box to collect all your personal effects, you fill out some papers, hand in your badge and go home. I do understand where the employee may be coming from though. We had a climate control problem and it is hard not to doze when things are really slow and the temperature is way too high. While I don't think the supervisor should have been disciplined I think management has to take steps to make sure that it is not easy to have something like that happen.

Why was the supervisor given a heavier punishment? Was there something more he should've done or what? I can understand being really tired, but it's still kinda shocking.
