Default moving on saturdays

i never knew this but apparently movers only work monday through friday. which is a bunch of crap since everyone usually prefers to move on a weekend. and the movers who do work on the weekends charge time and a half! my mom is way stressed out about it all because there is no way we can move everything by ourselves (my mom and i are moving into a duplex together at the end of the month). so she wants a contract and everything so she knows someone will be there. so we're still looking. we have a couple prospects that aren't going to charge us an arm and a leg, so hopefully something works out.

has anyone else had this problem? i just think it's so crazy.

Yes, it is a frustrating experience! We moved halfway across the United States a couple of years ago and our movers packed us up on a Wednesday and would not deliver our things until the following Monday. (Even though we arrived at our location on the Saturday before) As you said, if we wanted to pay a ton of money it wouldn't have been a problem.

I have always moved everything myself so no, I haven't experienced this. The only thing I could suggest would be getting friends involved-hire a large truck and enlist friends. Works for me.

This is the reason there are always ads on Craigslist for moving help on weekends. Its really sad that a job where weekends should be pretty standard charges more. I mean can you imagine charging double for a Big Mac on weekends because you only worked weekdays and working weekends was a matter of inconvenience?

no kidding that would be crazy.

luckily, i think we found someone and he's not going to charge us an arm and a leg. the only real problem is that he's actually going to be in maryland moving someone else, so he got two of his other guys to move us. but they won't have a truck, so they have to rent a uhaul. pretty much it comes down to as long as we can get the uhaul, we got movers. i don't think there will be a problem. so my mom is very happy about it, and so am i!
