Default Leaked Batteries

Arg. Big arg.

The batteries leaked in my DVD remote control. I cleaned it up as best I could, but unfortunately, the contacts cannot be removed from the remote. So I can't get in there properly to clean them with wire wool.

Every day there is more corrosion again. I scrape off what I can, the remote works. Next day, more rust, and not working. Heck, it even started corroding the one set of batteries so I had to get rid of them.

Any solutions? WD40-would that maybe help?

Default Get a new remote

I think the easiest thing would be to buy a $15 universal remote. I don't know of any way to take care or fix the old one. Plus with a universal, you can program it to several things at once to cut down on remote clutter.

Okay I did a little googling for this and came up with this...

A cotton bud moistened with coke, vinegar or lemon should help to get the rust / corrosion cleaned up. Then if you don't have a wire brush, try a fine grit sandpaper.

Oh, and remember wash your hands after you come in contact with the leakage.
