Parenting as i recall was never as neurotic as i tend to witness specifically in todays America. From what i remember as a child. I was taught necessities for the most part in school. Whilst i was tuaght morality, justice and attitude at home, wrongdoings was dealth with by persuation and patience. We all had more unstructured time than structured, and we didn't have choirs. Looking back at things i would say that it was the ideal and perfect conditions to grow up around. And im truly happy and thankful for my childhood. The unconditional love and support far more outweighs whatever knowledge that was dealt in any other area. Knowledge and intelligence/intellect i think is best stimulated by play and most of all by the environment, freedom and not being weighed down with responsibilities in absurdum. Pressure and parents wishes for a certain future of their child is far more damaging and hinders development.
