Too Many People Getting Fired :(

I was thinking the economy might finally be taking a turn for the better with the elections done and all. Maybe investors will start having confidence and we'll soon see an influx of capital into the economy again.

But everyday, it seems more people I know are taken off their jobs. 1st was my friend, whose income is 50% of their household. They just bought a house and most of their stuff is under installment. In our company, 2 people were let go of in a span of weeks. In my husband's company, they just let go of people too and if he hadn't given an assignment to one of his senior staff, that staff would've been let go too. Now, another friend of mine was let go by an international company. They wouldn't even transfer her to one of their international subsidiaries. Not that she was a slacker, it was just cost-cutting.

I'm just thankful for each day that my hubby & I have our jobs.

The big buffet restaurant in our town, Golden Corral closed this week. There was no warning-the staff just turned up one day and the restaurant was closed. It was a super cheap place too-if they can't hold up business then I fear no one can.

The economy is just doing really bad at the moment, and supposedly the unemployment rate is at a 14 year high of 6.5% which would probably be closer to 15-20% when you factor in all of the people who can't qualify for unemployment for whatever reason. Hopefully we will be seeing some improvements soon, with Obama now in charge and everything.

It really is pretty bad all around. From what I understand, the auto companies collectively are the largest employers and they are contemplating some rather massive cuts - so it seems like it's going to get worst before it gets better.

The little company my brother works for employs maybe forty people...
They have had to cut loose eight employees in the past two months trying to stay afloat...
So that has taken care of all the dead wood... So now all that is left is good hard working employees...
But now they still need to let more go... So now he tells me that they are going to spring a surprise
drug test next week in hopes of catching a few more... And this story is not uncommon
it seems to be happening all over... But I'm optimistic I think things will turn around soon...
