Default Psychotic Officemate

I cannot believe how mean my co-worker is. She was one of the people considered for promotion to manager but didn't make it. The manager we have now has a lot of flaws but my co-worker thinks so highly of herself that she is saying she can do a better job.

She has complained to the "higher ups" about the manager. I told her the most they will probably do is give the manager a bad review but also give her a chance to redeem herself next year. My co-worker's reaction was "Well, what am I staying here for if there's no way for me to move up?" I can't believe she can actually be THAT mean and do stuff to get someone in the office fired!!! Moreso, considering that times are tough these days.

Another colleague told me to be more careful about this co-worker too because she talks smack to the higher ups about other co-workers behind our backs. It's just horrible.

That might depend on how bad the other person is screwing up too. I have seen it far too many times when someone is not replaced that should be and it messes up the whole place.

Honestly if she is as bad as you say, then chances are she is well known to the higher ups. I would guess that she is so known that they no longer pay any attention to her any more, just considering her to be a mean bung hole.

It sounds like something that would suck to be in the middle of and I am sure we have all had some coworkers like this before. I think I would have asked her why if she thinks she will not move up, why she did not think about that when she took the job in the first place. Seems to me that would save everyone a headache or two.

We are probably all familiar with the phrase "Kill them with kindness". Well, I always believed that until I met 'Alice'. Alice came to work in our office two years ago. She started work the first day by announcing to me, her trainer, that she knew how to do her job and did not need to be trained. She spent the next two weeks making mistake after mistake and, when questioned by the office manager, stated that I had not trained her. Alice had a seizure disorder which could be triggered by stress but we were always suspicious of the fact that whenever one person said anything that in anyway contradicted her within five minutes she was having a seizure or claiming to have had a seizure (some were witnessed by staff and others were not). She finally left but not after making a big scene in the office. It was a relief to everyone. The owners of the business were leary of letting her go because she was always talking about how she had sued employers for letting her go, stating they were releasing her due to her seizures.
