Thumbs down The Darjeeling Limited

I have liked Owen Wilson [I like to call him crooked nose] in every movie I've ever seen him in...
So I'm thinking I'd better stay away from this one, if I want to be able to keep saying that...
It is suppose to be a comedy, but watching the trailer I didn't see not one thing funny... And they usually
put the best parts in the trailer... Its about him and his 2 brothers taking a train trip across India...
Seems like that could be pretty funny, but I just don't see it in the preview... If anyone has watched this one,
I would love to hear what you thought of it...

I'm with you on all points on this one. I absolutely love Owen Wilson - and have yet to see a flick I don't like him in.... however, i just don't "get it" with the looks of this movie... Unless someone hops on and does one heck of a sales pitch for it, I think i'll take a pass on this one as well.

i liked this movie. i thought it was funny, but dramatic too. if you like other wes anderson movies (rushmore, the royal tenenbaums) you'd like it. if you didn't, then you probably won't like this one either.

I approached The Darjeeling Limited with a bit of apprehension. The trailer certainly didn't sell it for me. I'm happy to report that if you are a Wes Anderson fan then you definitely won't be disappointed.

The film scales back the comedy somewhat and puts on a wee bit more emotion, but it still looks and feels like Wes. I was surprisingly moved by the end, much like I was with his last 2 films.

Well apertio that is 2 thumbs up so far... But I don't know, I'm still a little skeptical myself...
I'm certainly not a fan of Wes Anderson... I've seen "The Royal Tenenbaums" and
"The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" and I like them ok I guess... But I wasn't moved
by them as the Stubblecat said he was... When I first saw that picture up top,
I thought that Adrien Brody guy was Wes Anderson... They look a little alike to me,
but I guess they both just have beady eyes and a big snout...

The Royal Tenenbaums... I think I remember buying that movie once.... and I think I remember putting it in the dvd player for a few minutes... and I remember giving it away to someone I worked with. I don't remember anything in between though.

Those two thumbs up aren't looking very promising on this end either CopyCat.

Wink

Yeah well me too... Like I said, I've never seen him in a bad movie...
And I don't want to mess up that record... I would really hate to
watch the movie and not like it... So I'm going to wait till I hear
more good reviews at least...

You know I'd take a bullet for you CC... well okay maybe not, but I would risk an hour and a half of my life in order to watch a movie and report back to you, thus sparing you the pain and agony in case it's a flop.

So, I've added this movie to my Netflix queue... granted, i left it hanging around #14 and if anything better comes along in the meantime, I'm not making any promises... but.. if you're not in a hurry, then I shall not fail you.

Wow, such reluctance...

At the end of the day, Wes Anderson makes large-sized films about very small subjects.

It might help if you're a fan of filmmakers like Robert Altman or P.T. Anderson. Both directors make (and made) films with a broad range of characters, telling multiple stories with sometimes very little traditional plot.

The Darjeeling Limited, The Life Aquatic and The Royal Tennenbaums could almost be considered a trilogy, as they look at unusual lives lived within families which have fractured. In order for their characters to redeem themselves, they have to put their families back together first.

An added bonus is that Anderson's films are funny and occasionally touching, as well as beautifully photographed and framed with his insistence on filming them super-wide.
