	This romantic comedy is set during a family gathering of generous proportions. Widower Dan Burns (played by Steve Carell of “The 40 Year-Old Virgin”) is a successful local newspaper columnist raising three budding daughters. One of his daughters, Jane (Alison Pill of “Pieces of April”) wants to start driving. Another, Cara (Brittany Robertson of “Keeping Up With the Steins”) wants to start... (more) This romantic comedy is set during a family gathering of generous proportions. Widower Dan Burns (played by Steve Carell of “The 40 Year-Old Virgin”) is a successful local newspaper columnist raising three budding daughters. One of his daughters, Jane (Alison Pill of “Pieces of April”) wants to start driving. Another, Cara (Brittany Robertson of “Keeping Up With the Steins”) wants to start dating. The youngest girl Lilly (Marlene Lawston of “Flightplan”) seems to be growing faster than Dan is quite ready for with her quick wit and insight. Arriving at the cabin and after a bit of tension between him and his older daughters, Dan's mother (played by Diane Wiest of “The Horse Whisperer”) wisely urges Dan to (as she put it) "get lost" and go get the newspaper as a way to clear his head and get some fresh air. At the bait-shop/bookstore Dan meets Marie, an attractive woman (played by Juliette Binoche of “Chocolat”) who mistakes him for an employee and asks for help finding a book. During this encounter, the two have a certain "connection" but when Dan asks for Marie's phone number, she informs him that it might be difficult since she just recently entered a new relationship only a few days old. They agree that it would be harmless enough to exchange numbers to simply finish their conversation. The two part ways and Dan heads back to the cabin a new man. When he returns to the family gathering, he tells his brother, Mitch (Dane Cook of “Good Luck Chuck”) and another family member about the beautiful, interesting woman he met in town. Needless to say, Dan's in for a shock when he realizes Mitch's new girlfriend is the one and only Marie, the same woman he met at the bait-bookstore. Dan is beyond devastated, as it seems he is not one who easily finds a connection with any woman since his wife died, and now the moment he has it ends up being the worst possible situation to be in. The thing most striking about this movie for me is the "real" factor. Even though the situation may sound like a stretch, every character in this movie was just such a perfect fit and played their parts with such ease and a certain conviction that it made it extremely easy to relate to most aspects of the movie. The characters are extremely likeable on all fronts (albeit the daughters definitely had some "teenage moments"), Overall the story was written with such tact and in an engaging matter along with a dash of perfectly blended tongue in cheek humor it was a treat to watch from beginning to end. For me, this wasn't just a casual rental - it was one that definitely belongs in the library and worthy of several viewings. Overall I give this movie a 5/5 rating. (close)

	Your description makes this movie sound good to me. Thanks to your review I have added the title to my Blockbuster queue. It sounds like it would satisfy my romance quotient quite nicely.

	I am pretty indifferent about Dane Cook, and i'm also not sure how much I would enjoy this film. This thing is a romantic comedy? If so, I absolutely have to stay away from it...I hate those things. Either way, thank you for sharing your thoughts and review! :)

	I liked him in the 40 Year Old Virgin and you've pretty much convinced me this is worth going to see. I don't prefer romantic comedies but my wife does and sometimes what is good for the goose is good for the gander. My boys appreciate a good action flick.

	Hmmm, I keep seeing ads for this on On Demand. Maybe some rainy afternoon I'll watch it... those seem right for a romantic comedy.

Del Toro to direct The Hobbit

Step Brothers movie review

Some people may think Ferrell is just up to his old schtick, which I can see what they mean, but I love it. He was in his element with this movie, and it was much better than some of his other roles as of late.
