That being said, I went into watching "The Mist" with a certain amount of optimism. The Mist is a horror novella by the American author Stephen King, in which the small town of Bridgton, Maine is suddenly enveloped in an unnatural mist that conceals otherworldly monsters. The premise for the story is solid enough, and it started off looking promising, however for me it seemed to fall a bit short. I actually like the supporting cast better than I did the lead character (played by Thomas Jane). The build up to the story was good, but then it just seemed like it failed to deliver. When everything was said and done I was left with that feeling of, "that's it?". Throughout the movie during the peak action scenes, half the time the characters just stood there watching rather than running or reacting, which to me got to be extremely frustrating. As far as a 'monster' of a hit on screen, it fell saddly short and won't be one to add to my permanent collection. I do think it's worthy of a rental on a rainy, lazy day. The only redeeming bit of merit this movie had was in the ending - which is even better than what Mr King himself wrote. I shall leave it at that in order not to put even the most remote spoiler in place. The ending does, however, make it oddly worthly of that rainy afternoon rental. (close)

snookumsnort I remember watching this in the movie theatres. For a Stephen King movie, I sort of expected something more in terms of special effects. But I have to say that I really liked the plot. It was a bit open-ended in that the movie really didn't offer any explanations as in, say a Michael Crichton story that would be full of detail. This wasn't.
